Name: Zirconium nitrate
Molecular formula: Zr(NO3)4·5H2O
Molecular weight: 429.32
CAS No.: 13746-89-9
Characteristics: White or colorless powder crystals, soluble in water and ethanol, hygroscopic, store in airtight containers.
Packaging: Woven bag packaging: 25kg, 50kg, 1000kg (1 ton) per ton. Cardboard drum packaging: 25kg, 50kg per drum.
Physical properties
Zirconium nitrate is a white crystalline substance, prone to hygroscopicity. It decomposes upon heating to 100°C, yielding zirconium oxy nitrate and nitric acid. It is readily soluble in water, producing an acidic solution, and soluble in alcohols. Treating freshly prepared zirconium dioxide hydrate with nitric acid yields the coordination compound zirconium nitrate. It is prepared by the reaction of zirconium hydroxide with nitric acid.
Applications
Zirconium nitrate can be used as a reagent for determining fluorides, as a corrosion inhibitor, and also for the separation of phosphates. Additionally, it serves as an important catalyst in organic chemical processes.
