Sodium thiocyanate description
Physical and chemical properties:
White orthorhombic crystal or powder with a relative density of 1.735 and a melting point of about 287°C. NaSCN is easily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone and other solvents. The aqueous solution is neutral. When it meets iron salts, it will form blood-red ferric thiocyanide. When it meets ferrous iron The salt does not react. It reacts with concentrated sulfuric acid to produce yellow sodium cyanide sulfate. Sodium thiocyanate reacts with cobalt salt to form dark blue cobalt thiocyanate. It reacts with silver salt or copper salt to form white silver thiocyanide or black copper thiocyanide precipitate. Easily deliquescent in air.

It is used as concrete additive for construction, cement grinding aid, solvent for acrylic fiber extraction, chemical analysis reagent, color film developing agent, defoliant for some plants and herbicide for airport road, and also used as intermediate for medicine, pesticide herbicide and pesticide intermediate, mineral processing agent, printing and dyeing, rubber treatment, nickel-plating and manufacture of margarine.
