Nickel Sulfate Hexahydrate Description

Physical and chemical properties:
Green crystal, tetragonal crystal system, relative density (water = 1): 2.07, easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and methanol, its aqueous solution is acidic, slightly soluble in acid and ammonia.

Main uses:
① The primary nickel source for electroplating nickel and chemical nickel in the electroplating industry. During the electroplating process, nickel ions and sulfate ions are electrolyzed.

②In the production of hardened oil, it is a catalyst for the hydrogenation of grease.

③Catalyst used in the pharmaceutical industry for oxidation reactions in producing vitamin C.

④In the inorganic industry, it is used as the primary raw material for producing other nickel salts such as nickel ammonium sulfate, nickel oxide, nickel carbonate, etc.

⑤In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used to produce phthalocyanine blue complexing agent and as a mordant for vat dyes.

⑥Battery, ceramics, and metal colorants.

Among the applications in the industries mentioned above, the largest usage is in electroplating, chemical plating, and rechargeable batteries.

Process overview

① It is prepared by reacting nitric acid and sulfuric acid to dissolve metallic nickel, followed by crystallization, filtration, purification, concentration and crystallization, and centrifugal separation. This process equipment has a large production capacity. Still, the equipment is complex and severely eroded, the utilization rate of raw materials is low, nitrogen oxide gas is released that pollutes the environment, the working environment is harsh, and the process flow is long.

② The nickel-containing sulfate solution in cobalt production is added to the soda ash solution to precipitate nickel carbonate. Then, the nickel carbonate is dissolved in sulfuric acid to generate a nickel sulfate solution, obtained by concentration, crystallization, and centrifugal separation.

③ After the electrolyte used to produce electrolytic copper in copper refining is deciphered, most arsenic, antimony, and bismuth enter the black copper. At the same time, the other iron and nickel remain in the solution. If further concentrated, nickel sulfate will precipitate and can be further purified.
