Cobalt (ii) Chloride Hexahydrate Description
Physical and chemical properties:
Red monoclinic crystal, melting point 86°C, relative density 1.924, easily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, and ether.
Main uses:
① Feed additives, feed nutritional supplements, and cobalt supplements in feed.
②Paint driers, military poison gas, ammonia absorbers, beer foam stabilizers, glass and ceramic colorants, etc.
③Used for electroplating, manufacturing cobalt catalysts, manufacturing color-changing silica gel dry and wet indicators, and manufacturing invisible ink.
Synthesis method:
Anhydrous cobalt chloride can be synthesized directly from metallic cobalt and chlorine. Cobalt chloride hexahydrate can also be prepared by the reaction of cobalt hydroxide, cobalt (II) oxide and hydrochloric acid:
Co+Cl2==ignite==CoCl2,
CoO+2HCl====CoCl2+H2O
