Descriptions

Chromium sulfate exists as green powder or deep green plate-like crystals. Apart from the hexahydrate, there are anhydrous forms and compounds with varying amounts of crystalline water, up to a maximum of 18 molecules of crystalline water. Its color ranges from green to purple. The hydrated forms are soluble in water, while the anhydrous form is insoluble. The minimum lethal dose (rat, intravenous) is 144mg/kg. It is corrosive. This substance is not regulated.

Anhydrous chromium sulfate forms hexagonal crystal system crystals, appearing as brown-red crystals. The pentahydrate appears as deep green. Additionally, the dodecahydrate and octadecahydrate both appear purple.

Anhydrous chromium sulfate is sparingly soluble in water, but chromium sulfate with crystalline water is soluble. This is because it forms blue to blue-purple complexes with water, and upon heating, it can transform into green coordination compounds.

The crystal structure of the pentahydrate chromium sulfate is triclinic, identical to that of pentahydrate copper sulfate.

Applications

Chromium sulfate is used as an analytical reagent, a mordant, and in the manufacturing of glass and ceramic glazes.

In the dye industry, it serves as a chromium complexing agent for producing products such as Reactive Red Brown K-B3R, Neutral Purple BL, Neutral Orange RL, and Neutral Pink BL. In the printing and dyeing industry, it is utilized as a mordant. It is also employed in the formulation of glazes for glass, ceramics, and enamel. Additionally, it functions as a waterproofing agent and finds application in industries such as petroleum drilling. Trivalent chromium plating chromic reagent.

It is used in industries like printing, ceramics, and leather manufacturing. In the printing and dyeing industry, ceramics, insoluble gels, and the production of chromium-containing catalysts, tanning leather, paints, and inks. It serves as an analytical reagent and mordant, and is used in leather tanning. In photographic fixing solutions, it is used as a hardening agent for photographic films.

Moreover, it can serve as a raw material for other chromium compounds, such as chromium trioxide.
