Copper sulfate pentahydrate description
Physical and chemical properties:
The shape is an irregular block crystal with different sizes, dark blue or light blue, and translucent. Set in dry air and slowly weather. Heating causes the loss of crystalline water, which becomes white, and when the water is encountered, it becomes blue. Crispy, fragile, can be dissolved in water—no smell, with metal flavor, bitter, astringent, toxic.
The copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate is very stable at sstandard temperature and pressureand does not deliquescence. It will gradually weather in the dry air. When heated to 45 ° C, it loses two molecular crystal water When it is 110 ° C, it loses tetramolecular crystal water. Lost all crystal water at 200 ° C, it can also lose five molecular crystal water under the action of concentrated sulfuric acid. Copper(II) sulfate is also easy to absorb water to copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate.
Heat the copper sulfate to high temperature at 650 ° C, which can be decomposed into black copper oxide, sulfur dioxide and oxygen (or sulphur trioxide).
